BRIEF HISTORY The Bio Bin concept originated in Knysna in 2000 in an effort to create a two-compartment dustbin to accommodate and complement the two bag system being introduced by municipalities around the country. Market research along the Garden Route showed a positive response to the idea and various municipalities and environmental establishments.
Southern Cape Recycling, Fairest Cape and Pikitup indicated that they wanted to fully support the initiative.
Our aim is to provide products that will educate, encourage and enable every South African to recycle. The Bio Bin aims to leverage individual responsibility by making it convenient and easy for all South Africans to start recycling at school, in the home and at the office. The Bio Bin simplifies the categorization and collection of recyclable waste as part of the ongoing aim to improve recycling in South Africa.
We have recently become a BEE company with Moses Maboi of Katlego Global Logistics becoming a 25.1% shareholder and director of the company. Our research revealed that certain areas around the country have already run out of landfill sites and are therefore having to rail their waste away at huge costs. Municipalities who are affected by this situation began implementing a two-bag system which encouraged the public to separate their waste and encourage recycling. The green bags for recycling are provided free of charge by the municipality who are then able to easily identify and separate waste from recyclable materials and thereby dispose of it accordingly.
