Company Profile : |
Dilmah is a very special tea. Dilmah Founder - Merrill J. Fernando - set out in the 1950s to offer tea drinkers the finest tea on earth. Whilst doing so, he desired to make his a genuinely ethical brand. It took nearly four decades for Merrill to fulfill his mission, but in 1988 he launched his family tea - Dilmah - the first producer owned tea brand in the world, handpicked, perfected and packed at source and shipped within days to tea drinkers around the world.
Merrill devoted his life to tea. Together with his sons Dilhan and Malik, whose names make up the name Dilmah, Merrill leads an ethical family business which has changed the world of tea.
In Ceylon, a country famous for its tea, there is a tea famous for its taste. Dilmah.
In the 1950s, father dedicated his life to tea. His vision was quite simple; tea that is grown and harvested by us in Ceylon with so much care and expertise, should be packed and shipped directly from Ceylon to consumers around the world. It made no sense then, as now, to take handpicked, garden fresh tea and mix it with tea from elsewhere. That may lower the cost of the tea, but it certainly denies people who appreciate tea and its benefits, the enjoyment of real tea. It also causes fresh tea to lose the richness of its flavour and its natural goodness.
He struggled against large corporations which foresaw that his success would cause serious problems for them. It took him 38 years but finally, he succeeded in 1988, in offering consumers the first producer owned, garden fresh, unblended, ethically produced single origin tea. He named his brand after us, Dilhan and Malik - DILMAH.

Hospitality Experience : |
When Merrill J. Fernando set out to establish his tea business he made a pledge to share the success of his business with the community.
Today, more than half a century later, Merrill's business - Dilmah Tea - is flourishing. And he has not forgotten the pledge he made in the 1950s; his business is genuinely ethical , and he shares his success with his workers and the community through his MJF Charitable Foundation.
The Five Pillars of Dilmah are the basis of the unique philosophy that makes Dilmah different; they require that Dilmah is managed according to the family values with which Merrill formed his vision of the first producer owned tea brand - authenticity, quality, ethics, the consumer and integrity. They acknowledge the reality that every successful human endeavour is the product of divine blessing, and thereafter human effort.
The MJF Charitable Foundation touches the lives of over 10,000 underprivileged people each year. Dilmah Conservation is helping to protect our precious environment whilst promoting sustainability. |
